MU is said to be planning to carry out a shocking deal to recruit an English player – who has just been discovered on a summer vacation with an existing player of the Red Devils.
Despite being contacted with a series of names this summer, Man United has only completed an official contract. It was Matheus Cuha, the striker from Wolves for a fee of 62.5 million pounds after MU activated the terms of the contract release.
The plan to rebuild the squad under Ruben Amorim has not really started, and the club has not been able to push any player not in the plan. However, a second rookie may be on the way to Old Trafford.
As revealed by the former chief of MU scouts, Mick Brown, when talking to Football Insider, the Red Devils scouts watched Ivan Toney, the British player currently wearing Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia. The source said Toney did not reject the possibility of returning to the Premier League after a season in the Middle East. Last season, Toney scored 30 goals in 44 matches in all competitions, and was summoned by coach Thomas Tuchel.
Brown shared: “Man United followed him, according to the sources I knew. They believe he still has the ability to play at the highest level. He has been in MU's sight from the time in Brentford, so the team's return to this deal may be unexpected – but in fact, the current market does not have so many strikers reaching such a level.”
More interesting for this rumor, it was discovered that Ivan Toney recently took a summer vacation with MU midfielder MUNOO – although this is not necessarily a clear sign for a transfer, but it still spreads the rumors.
Coach Amorim really wants to recruit Sporting Lisbon's striker Viktor Gyokeres. However, Arsenal seemed to be the upper hand. According to L'Equipe, Gyokeres and the representative informed Arsenal that this was their number one choice, the two sides even nearly reached the contract agreement. Gyokeres used to be A Amorim's student at Sporting, but now it will seem to join Mikel Arteta instead of reuniting with his former teacher.
Even so, Arsenal still had to negotiate the transfer fee with Sporting, because the Portuguese club denied having a term that allowed Gyokeres to leave at a predetermined price – while the player and the representative confirmed the opposite.
