Nguyen Thuy Linh has just re -established his peak achievement in his career when reaching the top 20 global women's singles rankings of the World Badminton Federation (BWF), after the impressive performance at Canada Open 2025.
At the Super 300 tournament from July 5–7, Thuy Linh attracted attention when she overcame many famous tennis players to enter the final. Despite her efforts, she still lost to Japanese player Manami Suizu with a score of 0–2 (12–21, 14–21) and had to pity in second.
However, the runner -up position helps Thuy Linh add 5,950 BWF points, raise the total score to 49,550 points and improve the ranking from 22 to 20 in the world, according to the update rankings on July 8, 2025. This is also the second time in her career to achieve this achievement, the first time at the end of 2023.
The achievement at Canada Open not only helps Thuy Linh extend the proud achievement in 2025 – with the runner -up in the early season German Open – but also proves her stable performance and superior bravery on the international field.
After the Canadian Open final, Thuy Linh shared on her personal page the sincere and deep gratitude: “The 2nd World Tour Super 300 medal of the year. Now I am ready to luggage and return home … Each my journey is always meaningful and I am really happy with standing on the bridge yard, that's enough”.
She also thanked the sponsor, the coaches, experts of the national and local teams where she joined, and fans always accompanied and encouraged each journey. In particular, Thuy Linh was moved when reading the story of a fan who witnessed her struggling with her luggage, no coach or assistant to accompany, even playing when injury but still resilient.
In recent years, Thuy Linh is the hope of Vietnamese badminton in international tournaments. After the drop to the 37th level at the end of 2024 due to a thick schedule, she had an encouraging recovery with many positive results at Malaysia Master, Indonesia Master and Canada Open.
The victory on the journey to the final at Canada Open 2025 put a solid premise for Thuy Linh before the 2025 World Championship in France (scheduled to be held in August).
