Liverpool may propose an exchange agreement to recruit Newcastle's star Alexander Isak this summer, with Darwin Nunez's ability to go in the opposite direction.
Former Newcastle defender, Stuart Pearce, said that Liverpool could use Darwin Nunez as part of the swap to get Isak's service before the summer transfer closed.
Last week, Isak was said to have a thigh injury right before the Asian trip of Newcastle and withdrew from the training sessions. He stayed in England, not moving with the team.
However, the information later appeared that the Swedish striker expressed his desire to find new options this summer. Liverpool has long been pursuing Isak, but Newcastle still holds a stance not selling, and at the same time values the UK about £ 150 million.
Pearce said: “If Liverpool has Isak, the championship race is considered to be over.
“I think if the deal with Newcastle takes place, it is likely that Darwin Nunez will be the one who is brought in the opposite direction. And that will help Newcastle can nod to let Isak leave.”
“In my opinion, Nunez is an energetic player. He can quickly be loved by Newcastle fans. He creates the opportunity himself, is only sometimes a bit wasted.
“If I am Newcastle, I will say: 'Okay, if we are forced to leave Isak, then take Nunez here, and we will give him a chance'. You know, in Newcastle, fans love their own players, especially strikers.”
“You can imagine Nunez coming, miss a few opportunities, then continue to fight. He doesn't flinch. It's a great quality of a striker. Good strikers are those who are not afraid of mistakes. And I can really see that he is suitable for Newcastle, if they need a replacement.”
On the side of Newcastle, the negotiations to extend the contract with Isak led to the club's proposal of a salary of up to £ 200,000/week, making him the highest paid player in the club's history. However, the Swedish striker seemed to be determined to leave.
Speaking about Isak's situation, coach Eddie Howe shared: “He is still our person. He has a contract. So, somewhat, we still control his future. I want to believe that all the possibilities are still open.”
