At the Canadian Open 2025 tennis tournament in Montreal, the No. 4 seed Elena Rybakina had a brave performance to overcome Dayana Yastemska after three sets with a score of 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, thereby winning the quarterfinals. The match lasted nearly two and a half hours witnessed one of the most dramatic backwards since the beginning of the tournament.
Rybakina, the player who won the Wimbledon 2022 championship, encountered many difficulties before the explosive gameplay and the uncompromising fighting spirit of Yastremska. The Ukrainian tennis player won the first set with a score of 7-5 after taking advantage of an important break in game 11. However, entering Set Hai, Rybakina showed a level with powerful serve and the ability to effectively manipulate, easily win 6-2.
Set Ba is the peak dramatic place. Despite being 2-4 ahead, Rybakina still did not flinch. She won 3 consecutive games to overtake 5-4, then closed the match with a Ace, which became her brand this season.
With this victory, Elena Rybakina officially participated in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Montreal. This was also her 42nd victory in the 2025 season, an impressive obstacle to help her continue to reach the top 10 on the WTA rankings.
