Coach Xabi Alonso is said to have determined the final transfer goal in the summer to complete the Real Madrid squad. And the name he aimed at was the left -back Alvaro Carreras – who was playing for Benfica.
According to journalist Jorge Picon, Real Madrid will not continue to negotiate any more contracts in the summer of 2025, except in the case of recruiting Carreras. This is the deal required by Alonso itself to increase the depth of the left corridor, where there is a competition between Fran Garcaa, Ferland Mendy and David Alaba.
Carreras, 22, once under the Manchester United Academy, before moving to Benfica in May 2024 for a fee of about 5 million pounds. After only one season, he shone brightly in Portugal with 4 goals and 5 assists, helping Benfica win the runner -up Primeira Liga. This impressive form has helped Carreras reach the sights of the giants, including Real Madrid.
Notably, Man United installed the beneficial terms when Carreras left. According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils have the right to buy this player for about £ 15 million – much lower than the £ 50 million contract release term (equivalent to 42.1 million pounds) that other clubs have to pay if they want to own Carreras. In addition, MU also enjoys 20% of the transfer value if Benfica sells Carreras at a price exceeding 5 million pounds.
If Real Madrid really recruited Carreras for a fee of £ 30 million or more, Man United could earn from 5 to 7 million pounds thanks to the percentage of resale. This is a significant number in the context of the Old Trafford team is seeking to rotate the budget to serve the reconstruction plan under coach Ruben Amorim.
Carreras will be the fourth contract of Real Madrid in the summer, after Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and young talent Franco Mastastuono. If he arrived at the Bernabeu, he would bring more flexible tactical options for Alonso, and opened a “bargain” deal for MU from the player they used to leave.
