On 7/7, Gunma Green Wings Women's Volleyball Club (Japan) officially announced the contract with the owner Tran Thi Thanh Thuy – captain of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team. This is the third time Thanh Thuy went to Japan to play and was the 7th abroad in her career.
Thanh Thuy used to play for Denso Airybees (2019–2020) and PFU Bluecats (2021–2024) at the Japanese league volleyball tournament (V.League 1). This time, she will wear the No. 16 shirt of Gunma Green Wings, a newly classed club towards the 2025–2026 season with the ambition of relegation and further.
With a height of 1m90 and seasoned experience, Thanh Thuy is expected to be an important pillar to help Gunma improve the position on the rankings. The team has also recruited two more notable foreign soldiers, Dimitrova (Bulgaria) and owner Rozanski (Poland), showing the ambition to raise the squad to compete in the harshest tournament in Asia.
Thanh Thuy is currently the captain of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and has just won the runner -up team at the VTV Cup 2025. Previously, she also impressed when she won the “Best Principal” at AVC Challenge Cup 2025.
Her stable form not only helps Vietnam maintain the top position in Southeast Asia but also affirms its capacity at the continental level.
Back in Japan this time, Thanh Thuy has many advantages. She was accustomed to the intensity of the competition and the training style in Japan, and at the same time has a physical foundation, technique and professional competition spirit. However, the biggest challenge is to integrate with the new squad and help Gunma achieve the goal of relegation in a fierce tournament like V.League 1.
Thanh Thuy is expected to meet with Gunma Club in October, after completing the mission at the world championship with the Vietnamese team in August. Fans expect this trip to overcome to be a new milestone in the career of “garden crane” – the symbol of Vietnamese women's volleyball.
