Liverpool's center -back Ibrahima Konate is said to have rejected a generous proposal from Saudi Pro League. At the age of 26, Konate still aims to play football at the highest level, especially to play regularly in the Champions League, which he believes can only achieve if he stays in Europe.
According to the Daily Mirror, a leading Saudi Arabia club approached Konate's informal representative to explore a suggestion in the summer.
However, the former RB defender Leipzig quickly showed his stance: the first priority is to continue his career in the old continent. This forced the Saudi representative to turn to other goals.
Konate's current contract with Liverpool is only valid for 12 months. Although the leadership of the Red Brigade want to renew, the negotiations are currently in a deadlock.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid is showing special attention, considering the French center -back as an ideal factor to complement the future defense.
The priority of the Royal team is to recruit Konate in the form of free transfer by 2026, but they are also ready to act early if the opportunity appears.
Currently, Real Madrid has not made an official proposal, but they can completely challenge Liverpool's position in the transfer window this summer. The biggest problem is the difference between the price of the two clubs: Liverpool wants to earn about 50 million euros (£ 43 million) if sold immediately, while Real is ready to spend from 20 to 25 million euros (17–21.5 million pounds).
Liverpool now faces a landmark decision: Selling Konate this summer to avoid losing it after a year, or holding him back and taking risks without reaching an extension agreement. With Real Madrid, patience can help them get a bargain contract – if they are calm enough to wait for another 12 months.
