Jiu-Jitsu Vietnam continues to assert the No. 1 position in the region when winning 84 gold medals at the Southeast Asia Championship 2025, taking place in the Philippines. The great contribution in that brilliant achievement was the boxer Dao Hong Son, who was dubbed the “dwarf” of Vo Viet village.
Hong Son has just created a hat-trick champion when winning 3 gold medals in 3 different categories: the weight class below 56kg, the content does not include points (No-Gi) and the content of antagonism has points (GI). The stubborn, sharp and abundant technique helps this boxer overcome many strong opponents from Thailand, Indonesia and the host of the Philippines.
Possessing a small body, but in return, the speed and ability to reflect extremely fast, Hong Son is always an obsession for all rivals in regional tournaments. He once resonated when winning the 31st SEA Games at home, then continued to take the throne at the Southeast Asian Championship 2023, and this year, he completed the hat-trick for 3 consecutive years dominating the regional arena.
At this tournament, the Jiu-Jitsu Vietnam team impressed when he won a total of 84 gold medals, 45 gold medals and 44 bronze medals, far beyond strong delegations like Thailand (32 gold medals) and the Philippines (26 gold medals). This is the best achievement in the history of attending the Southeast Asian Championship of Jiu-Jitsu Vietnam, showing the sustainable development and increasing quality of training.
The head coach of Jiu-Jitsu Vietnam, Mr. Phan Thanh Tuan, shared: “We do not put heavily personal achievements, but it is important to build a strong, uniform collective, with depth. Hong Son is a typical example for perseverance, passion and hard training. She is the inspiration for the team.”
The breakthrough of Jiu-Jitsu Vietnam is also a mark for the strong transformation of the country's martial arts, besides traditional subjects such as Vovinam, traditional martial arts or wushu. With a young, talented and enthusiastic force, the Jiu-Jitsu team can completely think of further goals-like the Asian and the world arena.
“Dwarf” Hong Son and his teammates not only brought back the medal, but also brings the belief that Vietnamese martial arts are ready to reach.
