One of the most popular deals in the summer of 2025 is about to officially close, when striker Viktor Gyokeres flew to London to check the health before joining Arsenal from Sporting.
Under the agreement, Sporting will receive 63.5 million euros in advance, with 10 million euros of surcharges based on the player's achievements. And now, the three detailed provisions that activate this surcharge have been revealed.
The first is the number of matches – a maximum of 5 million euros. According to the British press, Arsenal will have to pay 1.25 million euros for every 20 matches that Gyokeres play for at least 45 minutes. This will be activated gradually until the threshold of up to 5 million euros. For example: After 80 main kicks (larger than or equal to 45 minutes), Arsenal must pay 5 million euros for Sporting.
The second is the scoring achievement clause – up to 1 million euros. In two seasons in Portugal, Gyokeres scored 97 goals and 28 assists (a total of 125 contributions to the goal).
If Gyokeres has 31 goals contributions (larger than or equal to 25% of the above numbers) at Arsenal, Sporting will receive: 500,000 euros if it exceeds the original 25% milestone, and adds high contributions, but up to only 1 million euros.
That is, after more than 40 goals with assists that Gyokeres made, Arsenal did not pay additional in this term.
Finally, the Champions League provision – up to 4 million euros. Specifically, whenever Arsenal won the Champions League, they will pay 1 million euros for Sporting. The maximum of 4 seasons applies, 4 million euros.
Thus, if Arsenal participate in the Champions League in the next 4 seasons, Sporting will receive this.
In short, although the initial Sporting shouted at least 80 million euros, the last figure was still lower. But if Gyokeres played at Arsenal, the Portuguese team could still maximize profits.
When completed, Gyokeres will become the fourth most expensive rookie in Arsenal history, after Declan Rice, Nicolas Pepe and Kai Havertz.
