Andy Murray has just shared more about the rare time when he is a coach for Novak Djokovic, and confesses that he feels “uncomfortable” when he has to talk about technical issues with the great player who won 24 Grand Slam titles.
After Djokovic broke up with coach Goran Ivanisevic in the spring of 2024, there were rumors that he was looking for an “unusual” option for the next coach position.
However, no one expected that the Serbian star brought Andy Murray – one of his biggest rivals – in the coaching committee for the 2025 season.
Despite the promising start, the cooperation between the two ended right before the Roland Garros. During working together, Djokovic defeated Carlos Alcaraz and reached the semi -finals of the Australian Open, before having to retreat due to injury.
However, there was also a dark period when Djokovic lost 3 consecutive matches. Sharing with The Tennis Mentor, Murray said: “I think most of the former tennis players are weak in the technical segment. Sometimes, Novak wants to receive a lot of technical feedback, and that's what I feel is not really comfortable.”
He continued: “I'm not good at teaching others about techniques. I think coaches working with young players are often better at this amount compared to most of the coaches on the tour, because when a tennis player is 20-22 years old, you no longer try to change big in their play or techniques.”
Also in the interview, Murray said that if he had the opportunity to train again, he wanted to improve technical analysis skills and learn from more experienced coaches.
On the side of Djokovic, despite breaking up, this legend still holds the maximum respect for Murray and does not regret praising the former British tennis player for his training capacity and professional spirit.
