Ly Thu Van was dubbed the “Undefeated God” thanks to the illustrious achievements and the skill of using great injuries beyond imagination. Recently, the story he defeated a Russian boxer with only a single blow was recreated, making martial arts lover unable to admire.
Born in 1862 in Qizhou (Ha Bac), Ly Thu Van, when she was small in shape, was less than 1m60 high, so she was denied martial arts. However, the will and consistency helped him to study the Eight Pole with the famous master Truong Canh Tinh and the Great Merchant with Hoang Si Hai – a famous martial artist who was once the Qing Dynasty.
After 12 years of training, Ly Thu Van mastered the skilled skills: From the use of the injury hit the fly without tearing the paper, to touching the rotating cow wheel, it stopped immediately. He is famous for his “flower chaos” – the technique of rotating extremely fast as the whirlwind, creating the power and accuracy of rare anyone.
The most prominent victory of Ly Thu Van was when he was invited to participate in a martial arts session organized by Vien The Khai. Here, he confronted the notorious Russian boxer Malotov. Facing the witness of a large number of guests, with only one blow by great merchant, Ly Thu Van made the opponent broken ribs and collapsed, unable to play.
This victory not only affirmed his stunning level of French, but also helped him be invited by the Qing Dynasty to be a martial arts mandarin, in charge of training forbidden defense. However, he refused to glory to live freely and take care of his master.
Not only famous in the country, the image of Ly Thu Van also spread to modern Japanese culture. He appeared as a character in Chiba Tetsuya's Pediatric Manga and appeared in the famous video game Fate/Grand Order as a legendary warrior.
Despite his death since 1934, Ly Thu Van was still admired by the next generation as a perfect symbol of traditional Chinese martial arts – the convergence between skill, intelligence, and humility. “Undefeated God” is not only a legend, but also a lively heritage of the Eastern martial arts quintessence.
