Liverpool's 2025 summer spending will continue to increase with the Hugo Ekitike recruitment deal. The French player became the second expensive contract of The Reds this summer, after Florian Wirtz joined from Leverkusen with a record price of the club up to 116 million euros.
Earlier, Liverpool also brought rookies including Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Armin Pecsi, bringing the total spending to 216 million euros before Ekitike.
When the Ekitike mission closed with a transfer fee of 90 million euros, Liverpool's total expenditure exceeded 300 million euros. The exact figure is now 306 million euros. However, this is not a stop in the transfer plan of the team. Liverpool can still add an attacker and another center -back.
Currently, because Ekitike arrives at Anfield, the Liverpool squad will have 31 players over 21 years old, of which 19 people are counted as “foreign players”. Meanwhile, according to the Premier League regulations, each team can only register up to 25 players, of which not more than 17 foreign players.
This means that there are at least 6 players, including 2 foreign players, unable to be registered without the change.
Some players can be excluded from the first team list, such as Rys Williams or James Balagizi. Calvin Ramsay is likely to leave the team for occupying foreign soldiers, while young players like Fabian Mrozek, Owen Beck, Tyler Morton or Luca Stephenson can also leave on loan or sell.
If the 7 names are removed, Liverpool has 24 players, but there are still 18 people who are foreign players, exceeding the limit that allows one person. Therefore, the cutting of the squad is still necessary.
In addition, there will be departure from the first team. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave Anfield, while Luis Diaz is being cared for by Bayern Munich, despite the suggestion of 58.6 million euros, which has been rejected by Liverpool. One of the two left -backs, Kostas Tsimikas or Andy Robertson, can also leave after the appearance of Kerkez. Federico Chiesa and Ibrahima Konate are both being able to break up with Liverpool, of which Konate has only 1 year to the contract.
If one of the foreign players mentioned above, Liverpool will reach the maximum permission of 17 foreign players. If more people leave, the Premier League champion will have a space to add new personnel from abroad.
Harvey Elliott has also acknowledged the ability to break up the team to find more opportunities to play. If he and other “homegrown” players leave, Liverpool will only Freddie Woodman, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley, Jeremie Frimpong and Curtis Jones are eligible to be domestic players – relatively low numbers.
Therefore, Liverpool is interested in center -back Marc Guehi (Crystal Palace) and can return to pursue Anthony Gordon (Newcastle) to supplement the domestic player.
In addition, despite being eligible as the U21 player in the Premier League, young talent Rio Nguumha has not met the time conditions to be in the “list of B” for the Champions League. If you want to use the 16 -year -old prodigy in Europe, Liverpool will need to leave the registration space.
In short, for successfully recruiting Ekitike, Liverpool will need to sell at least 6 players, including 2 foreign players to meet the registration regulations. However, this figure may be higher, based on current speculation. There may be more than 10 players who leave the team, not to mention the cases where U21 players leave on loan or transfer.
The transfer window still lasts until September 1 and Ekitike is not the last contract. Liverpool has conducted 10 deals and is looking forward to the 11th contract. Many fluctuations are waiting ahead.
