Anthony Martial left Man United at the end of the 2023/24 season after the contract expired. The French star once made the Old Trafford team spending £ 36 million (could increase to 58 million pounds) to recruit from Monaco in 2015. By September last year, he joined AEK Athens in a free form and is said to sign the largest contract in the history of this Greek club.

In the 2024/25 season, Martial played 23 matches for AEK, scored 9 goals and had 2 assists, contributed to the team to reach the fourth place, thereby winning tickets to the Conference League. However, the future of the 28 -year -old is becoming precarious when he was named out of the list of the last 6 matches.

According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Pumas expressed his desire to borrow Martial before the Liga MX transfer market closed on Friday. AEK is willing to lend free and only ask Mexico to burden the salary. But this is a big barrier when Martial is said to be enjoying a huge salary and refusing to decrease even a euro.

“Pumas has negotiated with Martial for the past 3-4 days, but he has not yet conceded. I don't exclude the possibility of the deal, but if the situation does not change, it is difficult for it to complete today.”Merlo shared on personal YouTube channel.

Pumas had previously aimed at San Jose Earthquakes's Chicho Arango, but Martial was a really possible goal. If going to Mexico, Martial will reunite some familiar faces of the Premier League, including Aaron Ramsey, former Arsenal midfielder. The Pumas lineup also currently owns Keylor Navas, the goalkeeper used to wear PSG and Real Madrid.

Pumas has gone through 17 rounds of the first phase of Liga MX and is ranked fourth in the rankings.
