Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement to recruit the emerging star of Argentine football, Thiago Almada from Botafogo – the information confirmed by the Spanish team.
The 24 -year -old spent the second half of the 2024/25 season playing on a loan at Lyon Club in Ligue 1, where he scored 2 goals after 20 appearances before returning to Botafogo's governing team.
Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement to sign a long -term contract with the Argentine player, depending on whether this player will complete medical procedures and sign a contract.
Atletico Madrid's homepage wrote: “Agreement with Botafogo on the transfer of Thiago Almada. Atletico Madrid and Botafogo agreed to transfer the 24 -year -old Argentine, Thiago Almada. He will come to Madrid for necessary medical examination and then sign the official contract.”
Botafago signed a contract with Almada worth about 18 million euros from Atlanta United in June 2024, and this agreement is likely to be up to 26 million euros if it meets additional payment conditions. This deal is a record transfer of MLS.
Almada joined Atlanta United from the Argentine team, Velez Sarsfield in 2022 for a fee of 14 million euros. He won the MLS's best rookie award and also became the first player to win the World Cup as a MLS player at the end of that year.
