According to information from Tuoi Tre newspaper, the Vietnamese boxing world is stirring with information that Mr. Luu Tu Bao, Chairman of the Vietnam Boxing Federation (VBF), has lost contact for months after coming to the US.
Mr. Luu Tu Bao currently holds the position of Chairman of VBF term II (2023–2028), and is also Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Vo Vo Federation (HMMAF) term I (2022–2027) and CEO of Saigon Sports Club (SSC), one of the leading martial arts centers in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to a VBF member, he told to go to America at the end of March this year to take care of the funeral, then there was no contact. However, domestic tournaments still take place regularly.
Only on August 3, Vice President and General Secretary of VBF Nguyen Duy Hung received a call from the US. Mr. Bao announced his busy and asked Mr. Hung to temporarily manage VBF during his absence.
Facing this situation, the Department of Culture – Sports and Tourism in collaboration with agencies such as the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to verify information related to Mr. Bao. At the same time, VBF is also required to organize the meeting, assigning temporary management people to ensure uninterrupted operation.
Although VBF chairman lost contact, normal operation did not stop: VBF successfully deployed two major tournaments including Boxing award for strong teams nationwide 2025 (taking place in April in Dak Lak) and the National Boxing Award of 2025.
It is known that Mr. Luu Tu Bao has two Vietnamese and American nationality. Mr. Bao was also confirmed by the authorities to be eligible for candidates and was elected as Chairman of the Vietnam Boxing Federation for the second term (2023-2028). The fact that Mr. Bao almost “disappeared” from the boxing world and the administration of the National Federation was causing a stir and confused public opinion.
According to the schedule, the Second VBF Executive Committee will be held in Ho Chi Minh City on October 3, which is expected to solve the outstanding issues and supplement temporary personnel in case of necessity.
