Marcus Rashford seems to want to move to Barcelona this summer, and that is very beneficial for Man United. But Liverpool could be a road in that deal.
Last month, Rashford acknowledged that he wanted to play with Barcelona's young star Lamine Yamal. He publicly expressed his admiration for the Catalunya Club, but it seems that this team is prioritizing another striker.
Luis Diaz, Liverpool star, has been repeatedly rumored to leave Anfield this summer. His name appears continuously next to Rashford whenever people talk about Barca's transfer plan.
The La Liga giant is looking for a new striker, and both Diaz and Rashford are valued at about 40 to 50 million pounds. However, the similarity between them probably only stopped at the price.
MU wants to sell Rashford after the relationship between him and coach Ruben Amorim became cracked. Meanwhile, Liverpool hopes to retain Diaz and are negotiating to extend the contract with the Colombian player.
However, Diaz also acknowledged that he was willing to receive a new challenge. And if he moved to the Camp Nou, the door for Rashford was considered to be closed. Because Barca cannot afford to sign a contract with both players at the same time.
If Liverpool agreed to sell Diaz to Barca, Rashford almost all the opportunity to go to Spain, and Man United also lost a deal that could bring about 40 million pounds – an important amount to help Ruben Amorim to reconstruct the squad.
The Liverpool winning the Premier League last season was a great pain for Man United fans. But if they still make Rashford unable to leave, it becomes more deeply hurt, because it directly affects the Red Devils' transfer plan.
However, rumors related to Rashford moved to Barcelona have not stopped. The sports director of the club, Deco, even spoke about Rashford in an interview with the BBC Sport last month.
Deco confirmed that Barcelona “will not sell his best players”. He said the team was looking for “two, three or four new contracts”, but there was no need to spend crazy because there was a stable foundation.
When asked whether Barca considered whether to recruit Rashford or Diaz, Deco added: “We are focusing on extending the contract with the current players, then discussing bringing new people back”.
“Of course, as you said, both of those players are very good but they still contract with their club, so it will not be fair if we speak up.
He continued: “When I talk to the players, everyone wants to come or stay in Barcelona. That is very important. The image of the club is still very good. We are proud that Barca is still a big team and the way we play the ball makes the players want to join.”
In the meantime, Rashford returned to Carrington Training Center to practice separately in the afternoons, although the club has allowed players who want to leave more time.
Currently, Rashford does not have a new number of shirts after Man United handed the number 10 shirt to rookie Matheus Cuha. Some fans think that this is an disrespectful act, while others only expect Rashford to leave as soon as possible.
Regardless of the opposite opinion within the fans, it is sad to witness the best graduation player from the Man United Academy in recent years to leave the Youth Club in a bitter way.
Rashford will hope that the transfer to Barca can turn the situation in a positive way. But if Liverpool entered, they could have a strong impact on the situation and caused MU to one more injury in this transfer.
