At the age of 39, Luka Modric decided to try it at AC Milan in the hope that this club could find glory after one of the most disappointing seasons in the memory of Rossoneri fans.
The owner of the Golden Ball 2018 has signed a 1 -year contract with Milan on Monday (Italy), after saying goodbye to Real Madrid – where he had 13 successful seasons in Spain. The contract includes an additional term of 1 season.
Modric was a loyal fans of Milan since childhood, largely thanks to the influence of the idol Zvonimir Boban, the legendary Croatian who used to play this team in the 1990s.
Last May, Modric announced that he broke up with Real Madrid after the team won a total of 28 titles: 6 Champions League, 6 FIFA Club World Cup, 5 European Super Cup, 4 La Liga, 2 King Cups and 5 Spanish Super Cups.
AC Milan has just experienced the 2024/25 season full of disappointment when only ranked 8th in Serie A and did not win tickets to the European Cup. Shortly thereafter, the Board of Directors decided to dismiss coach Sergio Conceicao and re -appointed Massimiliano Allegri, who helped Milan win the Serie A in 2011 and then won 5 consecutive Scudetto with Juventus from 2015 to 2019.
According to Italian media, before making a final decision, Allegri called coach Carlo Ancelotti to ask about Modric's physical condition and current form. Later, the new Milan sports director Igli Tare went directly to the training camp of the Croatian team last month to close the contract with the veteran midfielder.
The agreement between the two sides was completed before the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, but Modric could only officially launch Milan after fulfilling the competition with Real Madrid in the US tournament.
The last match in Modric's Real Madrid shirt was a 0-4 defeat against PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup semi-final. This is a sad ending for his 13 -year great journey at Santiago Bernabéu.
