Leverkusen has reached an agreement to borrow Claudio Echeverri from Man City and there will be no bought terms. The Argentinian will perform medical examination today (August 19, local time).
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, 100% of Echeverri's salary will be paid by Leverkusen. This is considered a quality addition to coach Erik Ten HAG before the Bundesliga 2025/26 officially started.
Earlier in January 2024, Man City announced the successful recruitment of Echeverri for 18.5 million euros. However, the Argentine midfielder stayed in the River Plate shirt in the form of borrowed in the 2024 season, ending in December. Echeverri then put on the U20 Argentina team to attend the South American U20 Championship and in the summer of 2025, he officially assembled with his new teammates in Man City.
Echeverri had the first kick that could not be more impressive when scoring the first goal for Man City, contributing to the 6-0 destruction victory over Al Ain at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. It was the exemplary free kick from the rookie from Man City.
However, the 19-year-old young talent was forced to leave the field right after the first half at the Mercedes-Benz yard because of his ankle injury. Echeverri's worrying image later when he walked against crutches and his face was full of hard work that made Man City fans “stand still”.
But even when recovering, coach Pep Guardiola did not intend to use him immediately. The reason comes from Man City now that is redundant and coach Guardiola is pressing about this.
Moreover, Echeverri plays regularly to finish. Temporarily moving to Germany is a good plan for all.
