MU prepares young midfielder Toby Collyer to leave this summer, in the context of Ruben Amorim coach only 5 central midfielders to choose from, and Collyer is the least experience of them.
The 21 -year -old played the first match in the Super Cup to meet Man City last year. But since then, he has only 3 main kicks for the Red Devils.
Collyer enrolled Man United Academy from Brighton in 2022 and signed a new contract in the summer of 2024. However, last season he was seriously affected by injury, breaking up to 28 matches because of 3 different injuries, and only played a total of 13 times.
According to close sources, Collyer “must be gone on the form of loan” for better development, and MU is also willing to approve a loan deal, despite the determination to stay competing in the position of the young midfielder.
“The first and most important thing is that I want to stay here and play as much as possible for Man United. I will sit with the coach and the leaders to see what is the best development direction for me, whether I stay or leave in the form of loan.
Collyer admitted that he did not think too far now, but also understood that “football is not waiting for anyone” and everything must be done quickly if you want to achieve results. Before joining MU in early 2022, Collyer was interested in Brentford and Chelsea. He still contracts with the Red Devils until 2027, with an additional 1 year extension option.
Coach Erik Ten Hag was very interested in Collyer. After winning the FA Cup 2024, the former captain of MU was directly present at the signing ceremony of the new contract of Collyer, showing the appreciation for this young midfielder.
In the first season, the first team, Collyer came from the bench in the matches with Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal, and at the same time had 8 benches but did not enter the pitch in the season 2023/24. Last week, he was ranked main in a 0-0 draw with Leeds, for the first time playing as “No. 10” in the 3-4-2-1 diagram of Amorim coach, supporting behind the young striker Chido Obi.
