MU officially confirmed the extension of the contract with veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton, keeping him staying at Old Trafford for another year, until June 2026.
Heaton is now 38 years old and almost not playing for Man United. However, he said “extremely proud” when continuing to stick with the Red Devils and set the goal of conquering the title in the next season.
Heaton's old contract will expire on June 30, and among the four first team players who are about to run out of contracts (including Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Christian Eriksen and Heaton), only he is asked to sign a new sign. The remaining 3 names will officially leave the team in early July.
Heaton returned to MU in 2021 and has since been appreciated in the dressing room, not only by professionalism but also for the leading role. He is also a member of the internal leader of the first team.
Sharing on the club's official website, Heaton said: “I am extremely proud to continue representing Manchester United. We are very excited with the upcoming season. I am always ready to support the team in any role to work together towards big titles.”
Football director Jason Wilcox also affirmed Heaton's importance in the squad: “Tom's experience and leadership qualities are very important. We are happy that he continues to be part of the team. Professional spirit and careful preparation help him always ready to play when required – it is the perfect addition to our goalkeeper group.”
Initially, many sources said that Heaton would leave MU this summer, but he always expressed his desire to continue to stick with the club he admired from an early age. In the future, when retired, Heaton can switch to the role of a goalkeeper coach or a coaching staff member at Old Trafford.
