The doubts about the possibility of Novak Djokovic retired are increasing, especially after the defeat at Wimbledon to Jannik Sinner.
The Serbian tennis player is said to be able to break up the tennis in the next 12 months after the defeat quickly against young opponent Jannik Sinner in Wimbledon. At the age of 37, Djokovic was unable to resist the youth and the speed of the opponent, lost in three consecutive sets. This failure raises rumors that he may be about to close his illustrious career.
It has been nearly two years since the last time Djokovic won the Grand Slam, the US Open 2023 championship. Nick Kyrgios, a person who has often criticized Djokovic, is now a close friend of the Serbian tennis player, also saying that Djokovic is losing his passion for tennis.
Speaking on Podcast All on the Table, Kyrgios revealed a noticeable conversation between him and Djokovic in the dressing room at Indian Wells earlier this year: “I think he's about to end. I ask him directly at Indian Wells: 'Why are you still here? Why are you playing?' He just answered: 'I don't know.' I asked, 'What about children?
“It was the first time I saw that he really missed his family. I still often contacted him. I don't think he will play more than a year. It can't be a whole year. He is too professional. But if I am his wife, I will be very angry. Like Andy Murray, the whole career is finished and then jumped to the coach, still not at home with the family.”
Along with sharing from Kyrgios, the former coach of Serena Williams, Rennae Stubbs, also commented that Australian Open may be the last tournament in Djokovic career.
In her podcast, she said: “We all think that Wimbledon is the best opportunity for him to win an extra Grand Slam, but he cannot do it. I believe that Djokovic's next big goal will be Australian Open, a very special tournament for him.”
“Despite having experienced one of the worst experiences in Melbourne a few years ago, Djokovic has been crowned 10 times here. I do not exclude the possibility of the upcoming Australian Open will be the last tournament in his career.”
According to the schedule, Djokovic is expected to return to play at Cincinnati Open next month, but he has not yet confirmed whether or not he attended. Last year, he withdrew from this tournament to put his strength on the Olympic Games, where he won the Gold Medal.
Although there has been no official statement, the recent signs, from fatigue, away from family, to the lack of certainty in the plan of competition, are causing many people to believe that the moment of closing the last chapter of a great monument in the history of tennis is approaching.
