Novak Djokovic withdrew from the Cincinnati Open tournament that took place next week to protect his physical strength before the US Open.
The veteran Serbian player has not played any official match since Wimbledon, where he failed to easily against Jannik Sinner in the semi -finals. Djokovic hopes to rediscover the victory when returning to Flushing Meadows later this month.
Djokovic has long tended to ignore small tournaments to save the Grand Slam tournament. Last month, he also did not attend the expansion of Canada, similar to many other players. Now, Nole continues to be absent from Cincinnati Open.
This is the second consecutive year Djokovic withdrew from this tournament, although he won the championship three times before. It also means that he will not play any official match after Wimbledon until the US Open starts.
However, Djokovic is likely to participate in the improved male and female couple, taking place a week before the menstrual male main match begins. He received a special capacity to play with compatriot Olga Danilovic.
Still waiting to see if the ignorance of Cincinnati brings an advantage for Djokovic, when he himself admits that it is increasingly difficult to adapt to physical pressure from prolonged prizes.
Speaking after Wimbledon, Djokovic said: “Playing the 5 -set format, especially this year, it is really a great challenge physically.
Meanwhile, Nick Kyrgios recently thought that Djokovic would probably retire in the near future. The Australian player said his former opponent did not seem to be as motivated as before.
Kyrgios recounted the conversation at Indian Wells earlier this year: “I asked him: 'Why are you still here? What else do you play?' And he answered: 'I don't know.'
Kyrgios concluded: “I don't think he will play more than one more year. It can't be seasoned. He is too professional, but if it's me, having such a family, I chose to stop it.”
