Iga Swiatek, the No. 1 Polish World, brought a funny moment after the victory in the Wimbledon 2025 quarter -finals when BBC's cameras caught her … “stealing” a souvenir from the field.
After defeating Liudmila Samsonova 6-2, 7-5 to first reach the semi-finals of Wimbledon, Swiatek proved to be eager to keep memories in the true literal sense. Accordingly, right after shaking hands with the opponent and referee, as well as speaking to the crowd of audiences on the No. 1 field, Swiatek quickly “scooped up” many towels to play in his pocket.
Not stopping there, she even called a little girl to pick up the ball to … Please bring more towels. Right when the camera was caught, Swiatek also humorously raised his hand to signal “Shag” as if to say: “Don't tell the organizers!”.
This is not the first time Swiatek has shown a special love with towels competing in Grand Slam tournaments. In the first round against Polina KermoMetova, when asked about this “collection habit” in an interview on the field, Swiatek used to joke: “Well! This topic no one mentioned. We love my towel very much. Every time I return to a Grand Slam, there are dozens of friends and relatives demanding towels. So, sorry, I don't know if I do it, I don't know if I can do it again.”
“I have a lot of towels at home, really.
When asked by Tennis Channel, Swiatek laughed and shared: “Actually, I 'takes' everywhere, just people have not noticed it. Here it suddenly becomes a big deal.
“But looking back 30 years, Wimbledon is definitely the most wonderful place. But the towel here after washing is extremely quality. I use them every day in Warsaw, so I really advise people to have one!”
However, the story of “collecting towels” does not overshadow the excellent performance of Swiatek on the field. After the victory over Danielle Collins and now Samsonova, she named her name to the semi -finals of Wimbledon for the first time in her career and touched an important milestone in the journey to conquer the pitch.
“It is really great,” Swiatek was moved to share after the match. “I go away after this victory. I am very happy and proud of myself. I will continue to fight. I really love playing on the pitch this year and hope this journey will last. I have worked very hard to go far on this yard.
And of course, in the luggage continues the journey to conquer Wimbledon, Iga Swiatek is indispensable … some “valuable” towels.
