Recruiting overseas Vietnamese players, Viettel 'withdrawal' of rivals?

If nothing changes, Viettel will recruit overseas Vietnamese players from Hanoi FC.

Kyle Colonna has a total of 17 appearances for the Capital team this season

After the V.League season 2024/25 ended, Kyle Colonna had a total of 17 appearances for the capital team. However, his performance has not really met the expectation. This may be the reason why Hanoi FC did not drastically retain Vietnamese center -back.

According to many sources, Viettel is promoting this deal to replace the center -back Duc Chien – who has just broken up with the team to move to Ninh Binh.

Kyle Colonna was born in 1999 in Danville, USA. He has a father who is American and his mother is Vietnamese. With a height of 1m88 and modern play, Kyle is one of the most potential overseas Vietnamese players today.

Before coming to Vietnam to play, Kyle used to play football at San Diego State University from 2018 to 2022, 69 appearances and holding the captain's armband in 2 seasons. He contributed to help the team reached the top 14 nationwide in the 2022 season, outstanding achievements in the US school football system.

Later, Kyle Colonna signed a professional contract with New Mexico United Club, the team was playing in the US First Division. Here, this tall center -back scored 2 goals after 11 appearances. If this deal is completed, Viettel will have an additional quality option in the defense, and at the same time stir the transfer market when “withdrawing” the great rival Hanoi FC.
