“I think you know who I am talking about,” Novak Djokovic opened up with Serbia reporter, when suggesting a “bomb” in his coach: Monica Seles.
Dusan Vemic – a companion with Novak at Roland Garros and Wimbledon – currently no longer in the team. Djokovic admitted that he was in a career stage where long -term constraints were not suitable, but he still left the possibility of short -term cooperation with big names.
When asked about Vemic replacement, Djokovic smiled and answered: “I smile because it's like you are reading my thoughts, but I can't say anything. I am just 'stirring the soup' a bit, talking … then you will know. We will see it.”
“We just wait and see. It's just the initial conversation, bringing more emotional elements rather than a long -term cooperation. It makes great significance to me. I think you know who I am talking about, but do not rush now, lest I go before the incident. If that really happens … We have some interesting exchanges.”
With that statement, plus the saying “I think you know who I am talking about”, without too much reasoning to think of Monica Seles.
Djokovic once called Seles “one of his childhood idols”: “When I grew up in Serbia, Monica appeared in my head almost every day, because Jelena Gencic – my 'tennis mother' – also worked with Monica at a young age. I heard a lot about her: Monica ate this, sleep like this, practice like that. Monica is really my idol.”
At Australian Open 2024, Novak revealed: “The only woman I can imagine will work with Monica Seles. In fact, Monica has been a form of my 'spiritual adviser' for years.
Djokovic emphasized that he did not find a coach with all year: “Honestly, I don't need it now. My schedule has been streamlined a lot. I only play 2 prizes in 2-3 months, it's hard to ask a full-time coach. I just want a few big names to accompany in some tournaments, like Andy (Murray) earlier this year.
