On the evening of August 22, the Thai women's volleyball team officially entered the journey at the 2025 World Volleyball Championship at home. Rated better, the home team won 3–1 against Egypt (class 54 in the world) with ratios 25–15, 23–25, 25–15 and 25–11.
The performance of the home team is full of bravery, but each game is not really easy. In the two set, even Thailand was equalized by Egypt, reflecting the certain struggle of this team.
This result helps Thailand to temporarily lead Group A. However, the victory over the low ranking team has created a risk of negative scores on the FIVB rankings for the host.
Before the beginning of the competition, the FIVB ranked that Vietnam ranked 22th with 155.79 points, only Thailand was only 21 with 160.42 points. Due to the important score nature, FIVB will update the ranking right after the launch round.
Thailand won with a score of 3–1 so it was only plus up to 5.63 points, obviously a very modest figure at the pressure to improve the ranking. Meanwhile, Vietnam against Poland (3rd place in the world, 365.17 points) in the opening match tonight (August 23) should not face the worry of minus points because the opponent is too strong.
Even if there is a loss for Poland 0-3, Vietnam is only deducted 1.7 points. And if you lose 1-3 or 2-3, the minus point is only 0.01. In case of winning Poland, Vietnam will receive a minimum score of 17.05, and up to 23.3 points if winning 3 white games. Of course, winning Poland with Vietnam is just an unrealistic thing, because the level of two teams is too different.
So after the match, Thailand still stands on Vietnam, but the distance can be shortened very quickly. Vietnam is completely capable of overcome Thailand on the FIVB rankings if the home team is ineffective in the next rounds and if Vietnam recruits well the opportunities with scores.
This will be the first time in the history of Vietnamese women's volleyball can rise to the number one position in Southeast Asia.
