“The Village Star” Joyline Chepngeno recently received a shock when allegedly using Doping. As a result, she had to receive a penalty for prohibition from participating in races within 2 years.
On September 9, the Athletics Integrity (AIU) concluded that Chepngeno was positive for Triamcinolone Acetonide – a type of anti -inflammatory corticosteroid that was absolutely banned by WADA. The sample was taken immediately after Chepngeno's glorious victory at Sierre-Zinal on August 9. Analysis results in Cologne (Germany) given Chepngeno results. Understanding, this young Kenya had to accept a 24 -month ban (from now until September 8, 2027).
Chepngeno's main sponsor, Salomon's main sponsor, immediately cut the contract with her. They consider this action to be “completely opposite” with the company's value so they cannot continue to cooperate with Chepngeno. Along with that, coach Julien Lyon (the leader of Chepngeno and Milimani Runners) was also banned from attending all activities of Sierre-Zinal, until a new notice was available. Not only had to return all competition expenses, Lyon also faced a penalty for damaging the honor and reputation of the team.
The story did not stop there, the achievements of Chepngeno at Sierre-Zinal and Utmb Mont Blanc OCC on August 28 were also canceled. Consequently, the crown “Queen Trail champion” of UTMB was given to the athlete Miao Yao (China), and the title at Sierre-Zinal was given to Caroline Kimutai (Kenya).
Notably, this is not the first time the international trailers witnessed scandals related to doping. Remember in 2022, Chepngeno's compatriots, Esther Chesang, were also disciplined for using Triamcinolone Acetonide. Recently, another Kenya athlete Ruth Chepngetich was temporarily suspended because the test sample results were positive for Hydrochlorothiazide (HTCZ) – a banned diuretics, often used to hide Ped.
