Tottenham continues to strengthen the middle line when officially recruiting defensive midfielder Joao Palhinha on loan from Bayern Munich, with the terms of purchase.

Joao Palhinha returned to London after only one year of leaving Fulham to join Bayern in a great deal of expected but ended in disappointment. Despite 3 years of contract with the German team, the Portuguese player could not find a foothold under coach Vincent Kompany.

Both Bayern and Tottenham confirmed the deal on Sunday. At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Palhinha promises to be the addition of steel in the middle area, where there are names like Rodrigo Bentancur or Yves Bissouma.
Palhinha was once Bayern's top target in 2023, when coach Thomas Tuchel wanted to reinforce midfield. At that time, he flew to Munich to have a medical examination, but the deal was in the last minute because Fulham could not find a replacement.
A year later, Bayern completed the deal for a fee of nearly 50 million euros, but Tuchel left, and the replacement of Vincent Kompany had other options. In addition to having physical problems and injuries in the last season, Palhinha has not been used even when energetic, when Kompany prioritizes the use of young talent Aleksandar Pavlovic.
The 29 -year -old midfielder only played 10 out of 25 matches for Bayern in all competitions and did not even enter the field in 4/5 matches at the World Cup Club.
Notably, this is the second time in the summer Tottenham recruited a player who was not used in Bayern, after buying the young striker Mathys Tel.
