Vietnam women's volleyball team will attend the World Women's Volleyball Championship 2025, which takes place from August 22 to September 7 in Thailand. However, they have a lot of issues that need to be concerned.
This is the first time the tournament has been held in Southeast Asia, with the participation of the world's leading 32 teams. Vietnam won tickets to attend after winning the Sea V.League 2025, in which the historic victory of 3-2 against Thailand in Ninh Binh was considered a turning point, ending more than 30 years of the opponent.
However, the tournament took place in Thailand, causing experts and fans to express concerns that the home team could find a way to “retaliate” after a bitter defeat. In particular, the focus of attention is the owner Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, MVP of Sea V.League, who has made a strong impression against Thailand.
On social networks, some Southeast Asian volleyball accounts refer to “all eyes will put into Bich Tuyen” at the World Championship and predict that Vietnam will be difficult.
The fear is greater when many people repeat the precedent at the young level: at the U21 World 2025, athlete Dang Thi Hong was eliminated from the competition list after being asked for sex check.
Bich Tuyen has also become a controversy. After a defeat of Vietnam, the owner of Thailand's Pimpichaya was annoyed when he said “I Am A Real Woman” (I am a real woman), which is thought to be sarcasm for Bich Tuyen's appearance and gender.
This incident has raised concerns about the ability to recruit Vietnam, especially Bich Tuyen, will face non -professional pressures when coming to Thailand.
Experts say that, in addition to preparing tactics and fitness, the team needs psychological support to overcome factors in the field. “We not only play the opponent on the field, but also have to be ready to face the pressure from the audience, the media and even adverse decisions,” a former Vietnamese female volleyball coach shared.
The 2025 World Championship will be a great opportunity for Vietnamese women's volleyball to affirm its position in the international arena. But besides hope, the worry about Bich Tuyen being “illuminated” or tested as the case of Dang Thi Hong is still a story that makes fans and coaching staff unable to overlook.
