The Irish striker, Evan Ferguson joined AS Roma under a loan contract with a long -term season from Brighton.
“Roma is pleased to announce that she has signed a contract with Evan Ferguson from Brighton. Ferguson will join Roma on a loan form with an option to buy,” Roma said in a statement on the team's home page.
Ferguson joined Brighton from the Irish Bohemians club in January 2021 when he was 16 years old and made his first match in August of that year under coach Graham Potter.
The 2022/23 season marked his breakthrough, when Ferguson scored 10 goals after 25 appearances in all competitions and launched the Irish national team and became the name that received the attention of many top teams such as MU, Arsenal and Chelsea. However, the injury soon interrupted his step forward.
The short-cut ligament injury has cut Ferguson's 2023/24 season, a campaign that he made a hat-trick against Newcastle in September and then struggled to hold the main stone position regularly under Roberto De Zerbi.
Last season, after not impressing Brighton's new coach, Fabian Hurzeler, Ferguson was borrowed by West Ham in February, only kicked once in 8 appearances and did not score despite being led by old teacher Potter.
Ferguson will now seek to restore his style under the new coach Piero Gasperini of Roma, who previously brought Atalanta from a competitive team to one of the four top four teams Serie A – and also revived the career of many players.
Gasperini's achievement in turning unstable strikers, including Duvan Zapata, Luis Muriel, Ademola Lookman and Gianluca Scamacca into top scoring players to bring true hope to Ferguson when he searched for a new start in the Italian capital.
