President Joan Laporta has affirmed that Barcelona is trying his best to keep Frenkie de Jong with a new contract.
Barcelona is about to successfully tie French de Jong
Joining Barcelona from Ajax in the summer of 2019, Frenkie de Jong had a total of 259 appearances for the Catalunya team, scored 19 goals and created 23 times in all competitions. Despite being strongly contacted with Man United, especially in the first summer of Erik Ten HAG at Old Trafford, De Jong is still determined to stay at the Camp Nou.
The current 28 -year -old contract will expire next summer. Many big men are closely monitoring the situation, ready to jump in if Barcelona cannot reach a new agreement.

However, speaking at a charity event organized by former coach Ronald Koeman, Laporta was optimistic: “Everything is on the right track. We want Frenkie to stay here for many years. He is the key factor of the team.”
Koeman himself, who gave De Jong's great opportunity at both the team and the club level, also affirmed: “I hope he stays. De Jong wants it, and I know he's very happy in Barcelona. I don't see a big problem at all.”
In the 2024/25 season, De Jong played 46 matches, scored 2 goals and had 2 assists. Despite difficulties in the early stages of injury and being competed by Marc Casado, he returned strongly in the second half of the season, becoming one of the most effective links of the team.
Letting De Jong enter the last year of the contract has not been clearly extended is a big risk. Especially when clubs like Man United are targeting a free deal next summer. But with a decisive statement from Laporta, Barcelona fans have the right to believe in De Jong's prospect of continuing to play at the Camp Nou, despite the strong rise of young names like Casado or Marc Bernal.
