Chelsea reached an agreement with Brighton to recruit striker Joao Pedro in the summer transfer window 2025.
The Brazilian played the sights of both Chelsea and Newcastle, but he just wanted to join the Blues. An agreement worth more than £ 50 million has been approved, while personal terms have also been closed.
Joao Pedro will sign a limited contract to 2032 with Chelsea. Currently, the 23 -year -old star is on the way from Brazil to the US to complete the medical examination procedure, before joining the Chelsea squad to attend the World Cup Club.
The deal added a flexible striker for Chelsea's attack, which was strongly strengthened in the summer transfer window this year. Earlier, Liam Delap moved from Ipswich, and he will be side by side with Jamie Gittens – a winger who has just joined from Dortmund.
Joao Pedro was absent in the last two matches of Brighton after a scuffle in a training session with teammate Jan Paul Van Hecke. Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler coach said the incident was handled internally and considered “closed”.
In addition to Delap, Chelsea also welcomed young talents such as Dario Essugo, Estevao, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez – those who joined under the previous agreements. Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho left Chelsea after a loan season.
Chelsea has signed a contract with many Brighton players in recent years such as Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo or Robert Sanchez, while Levi Colwill also played Brighton in the form of loan in the 2022/23 season.
Joao Pedro has had 3 caps in Brazil since its launch in November last year.
Professionally, Joao Pedro is a comprehensive player: not the type of player destroyed as other goals of Chelsea such as Mohammed Kudus (West Ham) or Hugo Ekitike (Frankfurt), but he is very good at moving deep back and creating opportunities for his teammates.
He also has the ability to press and not operate very well, often appearing in the left wing, then suddenly penetrates the penalty area to create danger.
Although Chelsea's current attacking squad has been extremely talented, the appearance of Joao Pedro – and other players that the team is pursuing – shows the clear desire of the Blues in building a flexible attack, can swap positions and create mutations in all areas on the front line.
