Nottingham Forest joined Chelsea's expensive star race

After Bayern and Leipzig, Nottingham Forest has joined the race to get the striker Christopher Nkunku of Chelsea. Compared to the two representatives of Germany, Nottingham Forest has an advantage because Nkunku wants to continue playing in the Premier League.

Thanks to the 7th place in the 2024/25 Premier League chart, Nottingham Forest won tickets to the Conference League next season. This is the first time they returned to the continental playground after nearly 3 decades. In order to compete with the rivals of oligaries outside England, Nottingham Forest is trying to strengthen the attack and they have directed attention to Nkunku.

Nkunku is a 27 -year -old French striker who had 4 years of playing in Germany (from 2019 to 2023) for Leipzig. Two years ago, Nkunku was bought by Chelsea for 52 million pounds but his contributions to the western representative of London were not much. Due to frequent breakdown due to injury, the former PSG striker only played 62 matches for Chelsea in the last two seasons and scored a total of 18 goals.

Nkunku has just won the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Notably, at the last 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Nkunku was used by coach Enzo Maresca in all 6 matches. He scored 1 goal (entering Benfica's net) in the 1/8 round and contributed to the Blues crowned in the tournament held in the US.

Despite the fact, Nkunku is still expected to become the next player of Chelsea to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, after Noni Madueke, Djordje Petrovic and Kepa Arrizabalaga. The reason is because Chelsea has added a series of quality attackers like Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro or Liam Delap.

In addition to the midfielder Cole Palmer was extremely sharp when having a chance to finish, BLD Chelsea judged that Nkunku was no longer an essential factor for the Blues. Therefore, they will not seek to stop Nottingham Forest from approaching Nkunku. The problem with Nottingham Forest is that although the BLD Chelsea is willing to sell Nkunku, they still need to spend no less than 43 million pounds to own a player who has 14 caps in France.
