Carlos Alcaraz has returned to the No. 1 position on the ATP rankings for the first time since 2023 after defeating opponent Jannik Sinner in the US Open final.
The Spanish tennis player will start the 5th position in the world's No. 1 and is the 37th week in the top of the table. Alcaraz surpassed Sinner on the live chart of PIF ATP from the beginning of the tournament, putting more pressure before confirming his return to the No. 1 position with a victory with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 against the Italian tennis player in the final.
In 2022, Alcaraz defeated Casper Ruud in the US Open final to win the first major title and also become the youngest No. 1 player in history at the age of 19 and 4 months. On Sunday, Alcaraz won a match “to be eaten to no other” – this time with Sinner – to return to the first place from September 10, 2023.
Sinner, who became the first Italian player to reach the world's No. 1 position on June 10, 2024, held this position for 65 consecutive weeks. His first dynasty was ranked 4th in history, after Roger Federer (237), Jimmy Connors (160) and Lleyton Hewitt (75).
Alcaraz's coach, Juan Carlos Ferrero, also rise to the first position in the world for the first time in 22 years ago in 2003 after reaching the US Open final. At the beginning of that season, he won his only Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
At the age of 19, Alcaraz became the youngest male tennis player to win the No. 1 year -end position of ATP awarded by PIF in 2022, turning him into the first teen athlete to achieve that achievement. Now, with 61 wins and 7 leading tours in 2025, Alcaraz is having a convenient position to regain that title in 2025.
