MU is silently checking the possibility of unexpected reunion with the legendary goalkeeper David de Gea.
The Red Devils were told that the 34 -year -old goalkeeper had a provision for the contract with Fiorentina, allowing him to leave for a relatively small fee.
According to the British press, the discreet relationships behind the scenes were made after De Gea left a good impression on the day of returning to Old Trafford in the friendly match last week, and sent the message to the fans that “we can meet again”.
Before the Premier League match against Arsenal, coach Ruben Amorim still kept Andrre Onana in a “waiting” situation, not sure the number one. Amorim said: “Like other players, all have to take my position. I will not confirm who is the number one.”
De Gea had 545 appearances for MU from 2011 to 2023, ranked 7th in the list of all ages of the club. However, the declining form plus a contract dispute caused him to leave, before coach Erik Ten Hag spent £ 43.8 million to buy Onana from Inter Milan.
De Gea does not have a club in the 2023/24 season, but has found the desire and performance when wearing Fiorentina.
Ideally, MU still needs Onana (29 years old) or Altay Bayindir reserve goalkeeper to leave to liberate the salary fund. However, if the fee for De Gea is cheap enough, the Red Devils can still find a way to bring him back.
In a friendly match 1-1 between MU and Fiorentina, De Gea was awarded a celebration by Bruno Fernandes. After that, he wrote on Instagram: “Magic moment for me and my family when I returned to Old Trafford – my house.
From the bottom of my heart, I would like to say thank you for the welcome and love that you have for me. Even fans have never left me all the time at this club. We can meet again “.
It is expected that Onana will still catch itself against Arsenal on Sunday, despite missing the entire pre -season period due to a waistal injury. MU has been contacted with many goalkeepers this summer, sparking rumors that Onana may be replaced. Among them are Emi Martinez (Aston Villa), Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG) and John Victor (Botafogo).
However, Amorim still kept his faith in the Cameroon goalkeeper in difficult periods last season and the club has not signed any goalkeeper this summer. The Portuguese military leader said: “He is ready to play. Please wait.
Onana returned to practice from the beginning of the next week's injury in early July. Bayindir (27 years old), who thought it would be sold in the summer, was finally the one who took instead in the unbeaten series preparing for the season.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Senne Lambens (23 years old, Antwerp) used to be on the list of MU but now negotiated with Inter Milan.
