At the age of 45, Venus Williams faced uterine fibroids and had to undergo a myomectomy surgery in July last year. After a year of absence on the field, she returned strongly at DC Open, reaching the 16th round of the singles and the quarterfinals of the double women.

“I have suffered serious anemia, devastating pain, excessive bleeding and the abnormal dense menstrual cycle for many years. All of that has affected my ability to play and my career path.”
